Swell

2018–2025

Swell began in 2018, after my mother died. What started as a project about grief became something else: an investigation into what grief does to perception. The way it shifts familiar places a few degrees in the wrong direction. The way the past overlays the present without permission.

I found photographs my mother had made on these same beaches when she was roughly my age. I didn’t know they existed. They’re in the sequence now.
